It Started With A Conversation

It was 1994, the first day of college at San Francisco State University. 

I'm walking in the hallway with my best friend, and he pointed her out to me. I started a conversation with Christine while she was waiting for her friend. That conversation became something more, and before long, we fell in love.

As much as we would like to say it was happily ever after from the beginning, we cannot, because it was not.

While dating, we had so many intense arguments. We even broke up a couple of times. Then, eventually, we broke up for good for 16 months.

During those 16 months, somehow, we remained strictly platonic friends and didn't date anyone else. Looking back, that season taught us far more than we realized at the time. We learned a great deal about each other. Without even knowing it, we were learning structure, discipline, patience, and how to understand relationships more clearly. 

What We Learned

Then one day, out of the blue, I asked her to marry me, and she said yes. 

We got married on October 31, 1996. Some people might say that it was not a good day to get married, but that February 14th would have been a better day. But we learned something deeper: it is not about the day you get married. It is about whether your relationship has structure.

Over the years, we continued learning how to build a strong and healthy relationship, even before we had language for what we were doing. Of course, we made mistakes, plenty of them. But the important thing is that we remembered them, learned from them, and worked to avoid repeating them.

That is how our experience was built.

Over time, we began to see that what we had learned through life and relationships also aligned exactly with biblical principles. What we had experienced was not random. There was structure in it. There were patterns in it. There were principles in it.

Eventually, we decided to put it all together and share it with others.

That is how RESTORETH™ was formed.

Why We Built RESTORETH™

We built RESTORETH™ because we know what it is like to love deeply and still need greater clarity, stronger structure, and better tools to build well together.  While we were dating for the eight months, we loved each other, but as strong as our love was toward each other, it couldn't hold our relationship together. 

RESTORETH™ was created to help people strengthen what is weak, repair what has been damaged, and build relationships with greater honesty, understanding, and purpose.

We believe that most relationships have enough emotion, and they do not just need more emotion or more conversation to fix what is weak. They need language, and they need structure. They need a clearer way to understand what is happening in the relationship and how to respond before small problems become a major collapse.
